Standard Prescription

celecoxib __mg PO__(frequency)

Dosages

Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA):
Children >2 years old:
10 to 25 kg: 50 mg PO BID
>25 kg: 100 mg PO BID

Adults:  
100 - 200 mg/dose PO daily or BID.
Maximum: 400 mg/24 hours

Mechanism of Action

A COX-2 selective, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

capsule: 100 mg, 200 mg

suspension (BCCH):  
10 mg/mL

Comments

May increase serum levels of digoxin, methotrexate and lithium. May decrease the antiplatelet effects of ASA.
Note: concomitant use of methotrexate and NSAID is a standard of care for treating JIA.

Minimal platelet effect compared to other NSAIDs.
