Dosages
Caudal block (Preservative Free):
1 - 2.5 mg/kg
Continuous Epidural Infusion:
< 52 weeks post conceptual age:
0.1-0.25 mg/kg/hr
> 52 weeks post conceptual age:
0.1-0.5 mg/kg/hr
1 - 2.5 mg/kg
Continuous Epidural Infusion:
< 52 weeks post conceptual age:
0.1-0.25 mg/kg/hr
> 52 weeks post conceptual age:
0.1-0.5 mg/kg/hr

Comments
Solutions containing preservatives should not be used for epidural or caudal blocks or infusion.
Bolus epidural doses are only to be administered by Anesthesia.
Neuroaxial use must be preservative-free formulation.
Risk of resuscitation-resistant cardiotoxicity with toxic doses or inadvertent intravascular injection.
Treatment of cardiotoxicity includes standard resuscitation measures and lipid emulsion bolus and infusion doses (see intralipid monograph).
Refer to "Postoperative Disposition Guidelines for Infants" on SHOP for epidural use in infant.
