Standard Prescription

Icatibant __mg SC one dose (__mg/kg/dose)

Dosages

Hereditary angioedema with C1-inhibitor deficiency (C1-INH-HAE) type I/II acute, episodic attack

Children (>=2 years) and adolescents:
0.4 mg/kg/dose SC x 1 dose
Maximum: 30 mg/dose

Note: in adults doses may be repeated after 6 hrs, up to a maximum of 3 doses total in 24hr

Mechanism of Action

Icatibant acts as a bradykinin inhibitor by blocking the binding of native bradykinin to the bradykinin B2 receptor

Forms Supplied

Single Dose Pre-filled Syringe (PFS): 30 mg/3 mL

Comments

For slow subcutaneous injection in the abdominal region

Injection site reactions  are common (eg. erythema, swelling, warm sensation, burning, itching and/or cutaneous pain)
