Standard Prescription
sofracort: instill__drops in the ear canal__(frequency)
Dosages
Ear: 2 to 3 drops in the ear canal TID to QID.
Mechanism of Action
Antibiotic/Corticosteroid combination
Forms Supplied
eye/ear drops: containing framycetin, gramicidin and 0.5% dexamethasone.
Comments
To avoid the possibility of reinfection, do not touch ear with dropper.
Ciprofloxacin ear drops are preferred for otitis externa caused by pseudomonas sp.
In cases where tympanic perforation (or tympanostomy tube) is seen or suspected, Sofracort ear drops should be avoided or used with extreme caution because of the risk of ototoxicity.
