Mechanism of Action
Potassium-sparing diuretic; selective aldosterone antagonist

Comments
Watch for hyperkalemia especially when combined with potassium supplementation or ACE inhibitors.
Avoid use in severe renal failure (Creatinine Clearance <10 mL/min).
Full diuretic and potassium-sparing effects occur several days into therapy due to accumulation of the active metabolite canrenone.
