Standard Prescription

psyllium __g PO ___(frequency)

Dosages

Doses in grams of psyllium powder.

Children 6-11 years old:  
2.9 grams/dose (1/2 packet [1.7 g of psyllium hydrophilic mucilloid) PO once daily to TID

Children > 12 years old and Adults:  
5.8 grams (1 packet [3.4 g] of psyllium hydrophilic mucilloid) PO once daily to TID

Mechanism of Action

Bulk-forming laxative.

Forms Supplied

Orange flavoured instant mix packet (5.8 grams  powder/packet):  3.4 grams psyllium husk (psyllium hydrophilic mucilloid) per packet

Note:  contains aspartame

Comments

Each dose should be mixed in 240 mL of fluid.

Instant mix contains 11 mmol of sodium per package.
