magnesium/aluminum hydroxide mL PO Q H
Dosages
Children (< 12 years old):
0.5-1 mL/kg/dose QID 20-60 min after meals (Max dose: 15 mL).
Adults:
10-20 mL po QID 20-60 min after meals. Mechanism of Action

liquid (Almagel Regular: 200 mg AlOH + 200 mg MgOH per 5 mL; Diovol Regular: 165 mg AlOH + 200 mg MgOH per 5 mLs)
liquid plus (Almagel Plus: Almagel +25 mg simethicone per 5 mL)
Comments
May be mixed with water or milk.
Can interfere with the absorption of iron, benzodiazepines, digoxin, phenytoin and tetracyclines, quinolones and chloroquine.
May have laxative effect and cause hypokalemia.
Use with caution in renal insufficiency (due to Mg component) and gastric outlet obstruction.
Pharmacy supplies Almagel Regular liquid unless otherwise specified.
