GRANISETRON __micrograms PO q__h (__micrograms/kg/dose) 15-20 minutes before the start of chemotherapy
GRANISETRON __micrograms IV q__h (__micrograms/kg/dose) 15-20 minutes before the start of chemotherapy

Dosages
Dose is from Sick Kids
For chemotherapy-induced nausea:
Children:
20 mcg/kg/dose PO/IV Q12H, starting 15-60 minutes prior to the start of chemotherapy
Adults:
2 mg/dose PO/IV once daily or 1 mg/dose PO/IV BID
For chemotherapy-induced nausea:

Mechanism of Action
a 5HT3 antagonist similar in efficacy and side effects to ondansetron

Comments
a 5HT3 antagonist similar in efficacy and side effects to ondansetron.
Adverse Effects: 5HT3 antagonists have been associated with prolong QT intervals, usually occurring 1-2 hours after administration. In general, these changes are not clinically relevant; however when used concurrently with agents that prolong the QT interval, clinically relevant QT interval prolongation may occur resulting in torsade de pointes. Reduction in heart rate may also occur with 5HT3 antagonists.
